MTAQ - Workshops and Masterclasses  

February

         2pm, Saturday 25th, Pathways to Expertise

            Presenter: Michael Griffin

What are the keys to successful learning in music? What should we be teaching?To be held at the MTAQ Auditorium, Suite 26, 200 Moggill Road Taringa.

 

April

         11am to 1pm, Sunday 22nd April – ‘Duet Playing - Educational benefits and Compositional techniques’.

Presenter: Graeme Denniss

The workshop is a Lecture/Demonstration of the educational benefits for students of playing duets, as well as an exploration of various contemporary techniques which form the basis of Graeme’s compositions.  A small number of his students will be present and performing some of the duets.

2pm to 4pm, Sunday 22nd April – Duet playing

Presenter: Sue Thompson

In order to encourage teachers to give their students the opportunity of playing Duets and perhaps enter them for the MTAQ Qld Piano Competition Duets Section. Sue Thompson will give suggestions and perform attractive Duets suitable from Grade One upwards.

To be held at the MTAQ Auditorium, Suite 26, 200 Moggill Road Taringa.

 

May

         2pm, Sunday 20th May -  Historical performance practices in late 18th century piano music

            Presenter: Dr Stephen Emmerson 

The Workshop:

This workshop will explore some of the issues relating to the performance practices appropriate to late 18th century piano repertoire with a particular focus on the music of Mozart.  Issues to be considered will include articulation, phrasing, tempo, rubato, ornamentation, gesture as well as effect and expression. In addition to examples from Mozart's sonatas, the presentation will focus on his Rondo in A minor, K.511 and the performance issues that arise in preparing a performance of such a piece.

 

July

         2pm, Sunday 22nd July - Vocalists working with the Accompanist           

Presenter: Lynne Jordan

The Workshop:

How do you work with an accompanist?  The workshop will address a number of issues including communication and ensemble-work between accompanist and vocalist, and general etiquette.
