Student Performers Society 2010

The Student Performers Society was formed in 2007 with the idea to provide students with the opportunity to perform in a friendly, non judgmental environment.   Brenda Hunting’s idea grew quickly with the support of the MTAQ to three performances held each year in May, July and October.

In 2009, our third year, we were very pleased to see and hear very talented performers of all ages performing pieces from the early beginner through to AMusA.  The instrumentalists included: piano, voice, violin and 'cello.  We now have an accompanist who can perform with all our instrumentalists at a very reasonable fee so we can encourage a wider variety of performers to this event.  We thank those teachers and parents supporting their students and attending the concerts.

We have had wonderful feedback from parents. Many have commented on how it has prepared their child for concerts, exams and eisteddfods, but my favourite comment has been, “She never thought she would have the confidence to be able to play in front of people, but really enjoyed herself.”

We have very exciting news that two new Performer Societies, the Westside/Central and Northside Branch have been now formed to provide more opportunities for our students.  We would like to say a huge thank you to Sharon Bourne, Tertia Hogan and Carmel Sangster for their time and effort in getting the new branches up and running.  All of the concert dates, along with contact details for the three branches, are on the MTAQ web site.

We would like to thank Masson Music for their ongoing support.  Their performance area is wonderful with excellent acoustics and they provide a beautiful grand piano to perform on.  We are also thrilled to welcome the AMEB, Boyds The Piano Shop, and Play Today Music Brendale for sponsoring our new branches.

Of course the Student Performers Society would not be such a success without the help and support from teachers, Imelda Holt and Kaori Kondo, and our brilliant accompanist Emily Hsu.

We hope to see you at our next concert,

Yours

Deanne Scott and Brenda Hunting
