Introducing Carole Parker
Mus (Oregon); Associate Royal College of Music, (London); Member of Music Teachers' Association of Qld; Teachers' Certificate, London University Institute of Education.
Carole Parker studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music (London), Education at ?London University Institute of Education and Music Education at the University of Oregon (US). She has had wide and varied experiences in teaching music in the UK, America and Australia and has taught privately and in schools to students of all ages: pre-schoolers to over 70s. Her special interest in the 'older' learner (10+) is the result of conducting research in this area. However, her programme caters for all ages and levels of ability, interests and experience. As Head of Department at Stuartholme School, Toowong for 12 years, she developed and led a large and dynamic programme and was responsible for academic study in music across all year levels and in addition directed 3 choirs including the Stuartholme Vocal Ensemble, a highly respected choral group which experienced wide acclaim and success in Australia and in 4 overseas tours. Her choirs also had a long and successful association with Colin Harper's Queensland Pops Orchestra
Whilst at Stuartholme she was chair of the QSA (Queensland Studies Authority) Central District Review Panel for Music Extension and thus was responsible for verifying the results of some of the finest instrumental and vocal soloists in Queensland High Schools.
Carole is a recipient of the (Australian) National Award for Excellence in Teaching and in 2002 presented at the International Choral Conference at the University of Queensland. She has also been a sessional lecturer in music education at Griffith University and the Australian Catholic University.
Currently, Carole teaches from her studio in Bardon, specialising in piano, musicianship and theory. She also tutors in various aspects of music education (e.g. composition, choral techniques). Carole is also in demand as accompanist for examinations and auditions and as an adjudicator in piano and choral competitions.
Carole was a Member of Council for the Music Teachers' Association of Qld in 2006/2007 and is now a committee member of the Queensland Piano Competition.
