The MTAQ, founded in 1921, is
a professional body representing almost 1,000 members throughout Queensland. Amongst
many other things, it aims to promote a high standard of music teaching
in the state.
The Association enjoys a close
liaison with examination bodies, tertiary institutions and other similar
Associations both nationally and internationally.
Constantly endeavouring to
elevate the professionalism of the Association and its Members, MTAQ
provides opportunities for ongoing professional development and a
platform for teacher development through master classes, pre-diploma
performances and showcase recitals. Major events such as the
Queensland Piano Competition and
Queensland
Vocal Competition occur annually, as well as the Alan Lane Memorial
Professional Development Weekend (usually held in April).
The Association's
Brisbane
office at Taringa features an air-conditioned Auditorium with full
kitchen facilities, a reference library and a grand piano. The
auditorium may be hired by the public as well as at a reduced rate to
members. The MTAQ has sourced inexpensive Public Liability
Insurance, which is available to all members only. It also
provides a referral service to the community for well-qualified teachers
via the website, as well as by phone. The journal "Bravura" and
this Internet site keeps members and the general public in touch with
aspects of the profession, the latest pedagogy and performance and
professional development events.
