MTAQ Video Audition Guidelines

AUDITION ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Audition assessment criteria relating to
section 5b (vi) of the Constitution of the MTAQ.
The
applicant to submit the following:
a)
A video tape recording of TWO teaching lessons.
1.
Each lesson should show teaching at different ability levels i.e. one
beginner lesson and one advanced lesson ( i.e. minimum grade 5 level)
2.
Each lesson to be a maximum of 30 minutes, and a minimum of 25
minutes duration.
3.
A written lesson plan must be included for each lesson.
4.
The video to be in VHS format.
5.
Please submit two copies of video recording.
b) A
video tape recording of the applicant performing TWO contrasting works.
1.
One piece must be at least Grade 8 (A.M.E.B. level or equivalent) and
the other Grade 5 (A.M.E.B. level or equivalent). One of these pieces may
be a piece that is featured on the lesson video.
2.
In lieu of video performance, documentary evidence of performance
level e.g. A.Mus.A., (A.M.E.B or equivalent) will be acceptable.
3.
The video to be in VHS format.
4.
Please submit two copies of video recording.
Guidelines for Teaching
Videos
Video
lessons should clearly demonstrate the following teaching skills.
·
A good rapport
with the student,
·
Effective pacing
of the lesson,
·
Demonstration
of tone and technique,
·
Development of
student’s expressive awareness,
·
Linking various
aspects of the lesson,
·
Approaching a
new piece,
·
Provide a good
model/demonstration for the student e.g. posture,
·
Include
development and or training of musicianship, and
·
Modelling
effective home practice skills.
Guidelines for Written Lesson
Plans
Written
lesson plan should include the following:
·
Objectives of
the lesson,
·
Planned
activities, with the purpose of each activity outlined,
·
Resources used,
·
Applicant’s
evaluation of the lesson,
·
Repertoire used
(composer, title and source),
·
A brief
background statement about the student,
·
A brief outline
of the applicant’s teaching philosophy,
·
A brief outline
of participation in Professional Development areas.
Video Audition Fees
The
audition fee is $520. The Music Teachers Association of Queensland requires
the payment of this fee at least four weeks prior to the anticipated
audition date.

Video Audition Panel
M.T.A.Q.
membership video auditions will be conducted by specialist examiners from
the Australian Music Examination Board. A representative or representatives
of the Music Teachers Association of Queensland Council may also be present
at the audition assessment
